About Us

Autistic Spectrum Disorders are lifelong developmental disorders that affect how an individual functions in three main areas..

1. Social interaction

2. Social communication

3. Imagination and play

These are spectrum disorders which means that, while all those affected will share some difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways.

Our service will be concentrating on diagnosis of children and adolescents. These children may or may not have associated learning difficulties and some may be of superior intelligence. They present with numerous behavioural difficulties both at home and school, as the demands and challenges of normal socialization and communication increase. Their needs are not always identified and they are at risk of under achieving, social isolation and even exclusion from school.

A formal diagnosis of ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) is the only way to access provision of service, especially educational provsion, that a child or young person needs. Therefore there is a strong rational for timely and accurate diagnosis.

This diagnostic service will be entirely outpatient based, operating on friday mornings from the Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital. We will accept referrals from..

  • General Practioner
  • Secondary health care professional
  • Education
  • Social Services
  • Voluntary sevices
  • Legal profession
  • Parents

A complete diagnostic package will include four sessions which will involve the child and parents and include formal testing, using validated assessment tools.(3Di and ADOS)

At the end of this a formal report will be produced, outlining diagnosis, areas of strengths and difficulties, identification of needs and recommendations. We will be able to diagnose any comorbid disorders, and parents will be signposted to appropriate local services.

The service will not offer follow-up/treatment but will give clear recommendations for the child's needs within health, social care and education.
